Privacy Policy

1. Who controls your data
Startups Compass is the data controller for the information described in this policy. Contact: [email protected].
2. What we collect, and why
| Where | What we collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Waitlist signup form | Email address, name (optional), browser language, the page you signed up from, and your IP address at the moment of signup | To contact you when early access opens, to track launch-price eligibility, and to keep a record of your consent (timestamp and IP address) in case we need to demonstrate it |
| This website generally | Nothing. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels. | — |
| The Startups Compass application | Nothing is sent to us. Your investor pipeline, cap table, and all other app data stay in your browser's local storage on your own device. | — |
We process this waitlist data based on your consent and our legitimate interest in developing our service. Providing this information is not legally required and is done at your own free will. The only exception to "nothing is sent to us" from the application is if you voluntarily contact us for support or to report a bug — in that case, we only receive what you choose to share with us in that message (such as your email and a description of the issue), never your App Data itself.
3. Where waitlist data is stored
Waitlist signups are stored using Cloudflare Workers KV, a cloud data store operated by Cloudflare, Inc., which acts as our data processor. We don't sell this data or share it with advertisers. We may share it with service providers who help us operate the waitlist and, eventually, the paid service (for example, an email delivery provider), only as needed to provide the service to you.
Not active yet — describes how payment data will be handled once billing launches. When you subscribe, your payment and billing information (such as your card details, billing address, and transaction history) is collected and processed directly by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), our payment processor and merchant of record — not by us. Paddle acts as an independent data controller for that payment data, under its own privacy policy. We only receive limited information back from Paddle needed to manage your subscription (such as your subscription status and plan), not your full payment details.
4. How long we keep it
We keep waitlist entries until early access launches and the list has served its purpose, or until you ask us to delete your entry — whichever comes first. Once the waitlist closes, we'll delete Waitlist Data within 30 days, unless we need to keep specific entries longer for a legitimate reason (for example, to contact users who were confirmed for early access). If you become a paying customer, ordinary account-data retention rules will apply once the paid service launches (described in an updated version of this policy at that time).
5. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- Tell you what data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data (for example, remove you from the waitlist. Note that to delete your business data within the application, you must clear your own browser's local storage)
- Object to our processing your data based on legitimate interest
- Request restriction of processing, or a portable copy of your data, where applicable
To do any of this, email [email protected]. We may ask for reasonable proof of identity before acting on a request, to make sure we only disclose or delete data for its rightful owner. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6. International transfers
Cloudflare operates a global network, so your waitlist data may be processed in countries other than your own. Cloudflare maintains its own safeguards for cross-border data transfers; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for details. Where required, such transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally recognized transfer mechanism, as implemented by Cloudflare.
7. Children's privacy
Startups Compass is a business tool intended for founders and professionals. It is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves — most notably once paid subscriptions and billing launch, at which point we'll add a section covering payment data (which will in any case be handled by our payment processor, not stored by us directly). We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we do. We retain prior versions of this Policy and will provide a copy on request.
